Job Description

Scope of Responsibilities

The Protestant Worship Leader will, in coordination with the Designated Chaplain, have overall responsibility for leading a contemporary style of music for the Contemporary Worship Service. Practices are on Wednesday evening at 7 PM & Sunday mornings at 10 AM. Sunday service is at 11:00 AM.


This is a paid part time position for 4 hours per week: $24.24 + $4.18 per hour


Education, Experience and Personal Requirement

The Protestant Worship Leader must:


  • Possess a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a praise and worship leader in a contemporary-style Protestant worship setting leading a vibrant band, Praise Team, and congregation in songs vocally and instrumentally while playing a guitar or keyboard.
  • Be at least 18 years of age and able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Have the ability to read and understand music to include vocal chords, notes and keys and/or to effectively play by “ear,” and have knowledge of vocal harmony and able to provide accompaniment for Praise Team members and solo vocalists as needed.
  • Have a strong theological grasp of the Protestant faith, and have openness to a wide variety of faith expressions within the Protestant community. Also, be able to demonstrate the ability to clearly express the details of basic Christian doctrine.
  • Be able to use spoken transitions to guide the congregation on their journey through the worship service. The transitions should link the parts of the service by showing how the acts of worship are related.
  • Be able to conduct worship practices, select music, and stay current with music CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International) licenses posted on worship music (both printed and digitally displayed).
  • Must be able to play an instrument associated with typical Protestant style worship, such as a piano/keyboard or stringed instrument.
  • Provide one reference from supervisor of last position, a resume, and one clergy reference.
  • Coordinate with the Designated Chaplain for approval of song selections and special music for the Contemporary Worship Service. Be able to select song lyrics that are theologically Protestant. Hymns in themselves are neither traditional nor contemporary. It is how they are presented that makes them contemporary. The term “contemporary music” is used in the context of musical instrumentation and orchestration.
  • Perform 52 weekly worship services, 52 weekly rehearsals, and 7 special rehearsals and 7 special performances. Rehearsals, services, and special performances will not exceed 2 hours in duration per occurrence.
  • Must be able to pass background check from NOIC, Religious Affairs according to Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 1402.5.
