About Frederick Church of the Brethren

Our congregation was started in 1880. We built and moved to our present location in 1955. We constructed a new educational wing in 1966, birthed a new congregation, the Glade Valley COB in 1971, added a Deaf Fellowship in 1972, and constructed the present sanctuary and fellowship hall in 1991. We also purchased 110 acres west of Frederick for future expansion, which is yet to be developed.

Worship at FCOB is Christ-centered and Holy Spirit driven. We conduct two worship services for the hearing congregation - one traditional and one contemporary. We have one service for deaf individuals and their families, with its own worship style unique to the deaf community. Worship services focus on multiple thematic series throughout the year, designed by the pastors, staff, and lay leaders. The Deaf Fellowship plans their won deaf services in similar fashion.

The Christian Education goal at FCOB is to help new disciples of Jesus become disciple makers. On Sunday morning there is a wide array of classes offered. Several midweek Bible Studies are also offered.

Lay persons are very actively involved in many areas of planning for visitation and worship, including the Deaf Fellowship.

We believe that all scripture is God-breathed through the Holy Spirit for instruction in salvation, training in righteousness, and is without error. All scripture reveals God's search for humankind, which is culminated in God's redemptive act in and through Christ. Scripture is fully reliable and trustworthy for all doctrinal and morel decisions. Led by the Holy Spirit in community, we interpret Scripture through the revelation of Jesus Christ.
