Job Description

WHO WE ARE:

In 1937 and 1949, two massive floods swept through Cambridge. As a result, a dam was built by the Army Corps of Engineers outside of Cambridge. The wife of the accountant for this project began a Bible study for kids in their home. Calvary Baptist Church was born out of those child evangelism classes. In 1950 the church organized and hired its first pastor. In 1964, Calvary Baptist officially incorporated and, in 1969, we built our current building. Today, our church members are a group of professing Christ-followers who have been baptized by immersion and seek to fulfill Christ's Great Commission and Great Commandment both locally and globally.  As a part of the Converge movement of churches and affiliated with the  Converge Heartland District, we have a solid network of sister churches throughout our region who work together to see people meet, know, and follow Jesus by starting and strengthening churches together worldwide.

WHERE WE ARE:

Located in an agricultural region of southwestern Nebraska, the community of Cambridge is the largest city in Furnas County, and our church reaches a 15-mile radius populated by over 4,000 people. Cambridge is not far from the larger resourcing communities of McCook (25 miles) and Holdrege (40 miles) and only 10 minutes from Medicine Creek Lake.  The nearby cities of North Platte (80 miles), Kearney (75 miles), and Grand Island (120 miles) are situated along Interstate 80 and offer a wide array of services, shopping, activities, educational options, and attractions. Cambridge is located on U.S. Highway 34 and is about four hours from both the Denver and Omaha airports. Regional airports with direct flights to Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, Las Vegas, and other destinations are located in the nearby cities of McCookGrand Island, and North Platte.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

We are a revitalizing church seeking a gospel-centered man of God to serve as either a bi-vocational or partially-supported pastor.  We are praying for a relational pastor who has a missionary heart for reaching unchurched families, building community relationships, developing leaders and volunteers, teaching God's word, and mobilizing the church around a unifying and gospel-advancing vision and mission.  It would be a great blessing if our future pastor or his family brought worship leading capacity, but this is not required. Though Bible college or seminary training is preferred, we are mostly looking for our next pastor to have a clear and verifiable track record of pastoral ministry training that aligns with our theologically baptistic convictions.  See our PASTORAL JOB DESCRIPTION.

We desire a FT pastor who is released for the work of the ministry. If you are interested in our pastoral opening and one who is willing to raise partial support or are a returning missionary, please know that our Converge Heartland District office serves as a home missions agency and can provide you with support-raising services.
